Whether your into the season’s hottest trend, Vinyl Fashion, or not, it’s a trend that is here to stay. Or at least until Spring 2018. When I first saw this trend, I was a bit skeptical on how to wear vinyl fashion. Until, I decided to invest in a piece myself. And then I started seeing vinyl, pvc, or latex (whatever you want to call it) just about everywhere. Especially all over the runways during NYFW.
The first thing I initially thought about this trend is that you have to be skinny to pull it off. Curvy girls can’t wear vinyl. But boy I was wrong. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised on how flattering vinyl can be. Most vinyl has stretch in it which helps mold to the body yet hold you in. The only downside is vinyl is HOT!!! So I wouldn’t recommend wearing it on a hot day. But for fall and winter is a great and affordable alternative to leather. So now how to wear vinyl fashion. Vinyl comes in some very easy and versatile silhouettes this season. From skirts, pants, shoes, bags, and jackets, you can find a piece that you are comfortable incorporating into your wardrobe and be on trend.
Here in Los Angeles, the weather has been on & off. Hot one day & cool the next. So a vinyl skirt it is for me. Plus it will be easy to pair with tights for cooler days. But for now, I wore the skirt alone. A little style tip is to pair shorts or shapewear underneath to help with the vinyl sticking to your skin. You’ll thank me later. Keeping the skirt the focal point of my outfit, I paired it with a graphic tee (another super hot trend), metallic heels (omg another hot trend), and a classic mini satchel style bag from Angela Roi. When the weather decides to cool down, you can also dress up the vinyl skirt with a ruffle blouse or metallic yarn sweater. To dress it down, pair it with an oversized sweater, tights, and boots or sneakers.
If you choose to buy vinyl pants, I would style it the same way mentioned above like the vinyl skit. You can also add a denim jacket, long cardigan,a blazer, or bomber jacket when paired with a tee, blouse, or even a sweater. If you really want to make a statement and decide to wear a vinyl jacket or trench, I would keep the rest of the outfit very minimal. Think denim and tee or a simple little black dress. This way the focus is on the jacket and not anything else. And lastly, when it comes to vinyl accessories like shoes, bags, or even hats, I think its ok to pair with another vinyl piece. Again as long as the rest of the outfit it kept more minimal. For example, a vinyl hat or bag, is best paired with vinyl bottoms or shoes. Vinyl shoes are best paired with a vinyl jacket or hat. The key is to have the vinyl pieces broken up and not so close to each other.
