I think it’s safe to say that it comes to styling tools, I am a huge fan of T3 Micro. I use just about all of their styling tools (single pass luxe flatiron, volumizing hot rollers luxe, & featherweight luxe 2i blow dryer) except the T3 Whirl Trio Wand. To be fair though, I have never been a fan of wands. I’ve either used a traditional curling iron or flatiron to create my signature beach wave look. The idea of a wand scared me. I’ve heard so many horror stories of people getting serious burns that I wasnt about to do that to myself. But I eventually got over my fear and now LOVE using my T3 Whirl Trio Wand.
First, the set does come with a protective glove which is great for me since I am accident prone or in this case burn prone. Second, it has been a winner of the 2016 AND 2015 Allure Best of Beauty Award. Third, the wand comes with 2 more attachment barrels to help create endless styling options for all different sorts of hair types. Now before I get into the barrel types and how to create my tousled beach wave look, I also wanted to share that this ingenious tool features their digital SinglePass® technology which measures and adjusts the temperature for consistent, healthy results as well as T3 Tourmaline and ceramic barrels to help seal the cuticle for a smooth, shiny finish.
As for the barrels, the T3 Whirl Trio comes with 1″ straight barrel, a 1.5″ straight barrel, and a 1.25″ – 0.75″ tapered barrel. Each barrel helps to create a different look. In addition to the interchangeable wands included in the set, you are able to purchase additional barrels to help create even more looks. Polished curls & defined curls are both curling barrels with a clamp so they are more like a traditional curling iron. The polished curl barrel is a 1.25″ Clip Barrel & the defined curl barrel is 1″ clip barrel. Because my hair is shorter and fine, I LOVE using the tapered barrel. It allows me to wrap the bottom section of hair around the wand, creating a tighter curl on the end which allows for the curl to last longer. To achieve my look, follow the steps below.
STEP 1: START OFF BY SPRAYING A HEAT PROTESTANT ALL OVER YOUR HAIR. NEXT BRUSH OUT YOUR HAIR MAKING SURE IT IS SMOOTH.
STEP 2: NOW IT’S TIME TO CURL. START OFF BY SECTIONING THE TOP OF YOUR HAIR IN HALF AND CLIP. NEXT, GRAB A SMALL SECTION OF HAIR AT LEAST 1 TO 2 INCHES. WITH THE WAND FACING DOWN, BEGIN TO WRAP THAT SMALL SECTION OF HAIR HALF WAY DOWN ON THE WAND.
STEP 3: ONCE YOUR HAIR IS AROUND THE WAND, MAKE SURE TO LEAVE ABOUT 1-2 INCHES STICKING OUT OF THE END. THIS WAY YOU AREN’T CREATING A FULL CURL BUT MORE OF A WAVE. ALSO MAKE SURE TO HOLD THE HAIR ONLY FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND THEN UN-CURL.
STEP 4: WORKING FROM THE FRONT TO BACK, REPEAT THE CURLING PROCESS UNTIL THE ENTIRE BOTTOM SECTION IS WAVED. ONCE THE BOTTOM HALF IS DONE & COOLED DOWN, I LIKE TO RUN MY SONIA KASHAK HAIR BRUSH (similar to a Mason Pearson brush for only $15) THROUGH MY HAIR TO HELP LOOSEN THE WAVE. NEXT, USING A TEXTURE SPRAY; I LIKE ORIBE DRY TEXTURIZING SPRAY, SPRAY BOTTOM SECTION OF HAIR TO HOLD AND SET.
STEP 5: SPLIT THE TOP SECTION OFF HAIR, INTO 2 SECTIONS PARTED DOWN THE MIDDLE. REPEAT THE CURLING PROCESS THIS TIME WORKING THE HAIR FROM BACK TO FRONT, UNTIL ALL YOUR HAIR IS “CURLED”. REPEAT STEP 4 – BRUSH, SET, SPRAY.
